FESTIVAL OVERVIEW
The Jury
Those artists juried into the Art’s Alive Festival of Fine Art are recognized by art professionals as presenting work that is technically well-executed, has a strong conceptual approach, and is of critical value. The jurors for the 2008 Art’s Alive Festival of Fine Art are: Amy Rahn of West Branch Gallery and Sculpture Park; Liza Cowan of Pine Street Art Works; independent artist Carol MacDonald; and Stephen M. Schaub of Indian Hill Imageworks. CLICK HERE...to read about Jurors.
Exhibition at Union Station
At the heart of the festival is the exhibition at the Art’s Alive Gallery at Union Station on Burlington’s Scenic Waterfront. All juried artists are invited to contribute a piece for the exhibition.
Artist Awards
Artists taking part in the Festival are eligible for over $2250 in cash and non-monetary awards, such as recognition of emerging artists, additional exhibition opportunities, and being featured on the cover of the 2008 Art’s Alive Festival of Fine Art Catalog. CLICK HERE...to read about awards.
Gala Reception
A Gala Reception and Awards Ceremony will be held on June 7th. In addition to music and refreshments, artist award winners are announced.
Art in the Windows
For over two decades, Art’s Alive has turned the Church Street Marketplace into a public gallery by matching artists with retailers who showcase artwork in their windows. In 2007, we expanded the program to include other downtowns. These new communities will bring additional exposure for you and the festival.
Church Street Marketplace Sale
The Church Street Marketplace Sale is an opportunity for juried artists to sell their work. The sale will take place on Saturday May 31st from 10AM to 3PM.
Festival Catalog
Kasini House, the 2008 festival producer, is publishing a catalog of festival participants. The catalog documents the work of festival participants and provides a useful reference to contemporary art in Vermont. The catalog’s cover features the work of a juried artist selected by the festival producers. The catalog will be released at the Church Street Marketplace Sale on May 31st and available at the Gala Reception on June 7th. CLICK HERE...to read about last year's catalog.
Hosting or participating in an auxiliary activity
The purpose of the festival is to promote Vermont artists. Art-related organizations and individual juried artists are invited to hold demonstrations, artist talks, open studios, exhibitions, and other activities as part of the festival.
