STATEMENT
Each of us has a personal history that we re-enact through the remembrances and retelling of our stories. Our stories change in the telling, as we interpret our histories through our experiences, and through the contributions of our friends and family. In our daily lives we relive the stories of our forebears and our children, in time, will relive ours. Our culture changes and grows through the daily reworking of our combined experiences.

Although we live in a time of rapid change, our lives remain infused with the history of the cultures that have preceded us. In this series, I draw inspiration from the paintings of the 17th and 18th century - the Age of Reason - when many of the principles of modern arts, politics, science, and economics were developed. These principles survive to today, though often in diluted or fractured form. My work invokes these references to hold a mirror to our growth within our ever-changing culture. Through these images, re-enacted for the camera after much reflection, I explore the interconnecting threads of our private, family, and societal memories

BIO
In my youth, my enthusiasm for science was balanced by a love of the liberal arts. I excelled at literature and poetry, studied violin performance in university as a high school student, and won awards for philosophy writing in college. Over the last two decades, I lost contact with the arts as my life became more focused and busy: marriage to a wonderful woman; a Ph.D. from MIT; building a career in high-tech; and raising a young family. Despite success in these endeavors I felt a profound sense of imbalance. Over the last few years I discovered Contemporary Art Photography, which has reconnected me to the arts and has awakened me to some of the wonderful possibilities that life still holds.
