STATEMENT
Karen Geiger lives and works in Burlington, Vermont, and has shown at a number of venues and festivals since 2002. Born in Ithaca, New York, she is also an active curator. Trained at the University of Vermont is studio art and art history, she works in multiple mediums of acrylic paint, photography, installations, and drawing. She has been reviewed in Seven Days, who called her “a great painter.” A decidedly feminist artist, her work incorporates the human figure in an expressive and autobiographical manner. Geiger’s work hangs in numerous personal collections.
BIO
Karen Geiger is a maker of art; her work is a multitude of expressively painted images and mixed media. Geiger explores the collective female experience by telling her personal story, through acrylic paint and found images, allowing the viewer a peek into her life. She offers this invitation in a deeply personal manner, confessing her history on the canvas, and the power of that honesty is brutal. These are the places no one talks about; the despair of lost innocence, and the hope of finding it again. Geiger’s work uses the contradictions in relationships to create work that is both complex and speaks immediately to the viewer.
