STATEMENT
Figurative oil painting reflects a new direction in my work over recent years and my strongest work to date. Through portraiture, I am able to explore issues of identity and the crossover of psychology and art. I am intrigued with what is visible and what lies beneath the surface, what is gradually revealed through the process of seeing and being seen. Whenever possible, I paint directly from the model. I seek to create a fresh, painterly surface that captures light and is saturated with color.
BIO
My work has been exhibited in regional solo, juried, and group shows in Vermont, New York, and Montreal. I was awarded The Shelburne Farms Vermont Studio Center (VSC) Residency Award and also participated in Vermont Artists' Week at VSC. I have a B.A. from the University of Michigan with a concentration in psychology and art and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Virginia. In addition, I studied at Parsons School of Design and the Portland School of Art. Most recently, I studied figurative oil painting under Gail Salzman.
