STATEMENT
My paintings explore repeating organic patterns and images from nature. Primary layers are executed spontaneously by painting on a surface and printing it on top of a gessoed wood panel. The outcome is a repetitious organic pattern. I follow this technique until images begin to emerge. At this point my process takes a turn towards symbolic natural imagery. The execution becomes focused, and patient.
Currently, I am intrigued by birds’ simple shapes, magnificent colors, and repetitious songs. They symbolize journeys, lightness, home, fleeting emotions, and companionship. I make work that is energetically healing and pays homage to the natural world.
BIO
I was born and raised in Connecticut and studied art in Pennsylvania and Utah. It was the Vermont Studio Center that brought me back East for a residency. I stayed on for employment as a cook in the kitchen and continued to create art. Over these two years I reconnected with my love of New England's seasons, especially winter. I now reside in the beautiful small town of Westfield, Vermont where I am able to create art, healthy food, dried flower wreaths, work in our garden and help make maple syrup. My lifestyle is physically grounded in nature and it is this connection that inspires creativity. I have shown in Salt Lake City, Utah and Burlington, Newport, Johnson, Stowe, and Bristol Vermont.
