STATEMENT
Things that we think we know are often much stranger and more beautiful than we register. All around us are plays of light and abstract shapes created by movement.
Painting with layers of oils, I try to share some of the luminescence I see. These paintings investigate abstractions created by light and movement, as well as the tension between being together and being alone. As individuals we may be close, yet are always on separate journeys.
BIO
Linda Van Cooper was born in Dallas, Texas and spent countless childhood days exploring Texas back roads astride a retired cowpony, taking in the natural world. Graduating from Wesleyan University with a B.A. in Studio Art, she worked as a photographer and taught photography while living in New York City and Boston, before moving to Vermont in 1983.
Van Cooper lives in Burlington. She most recently exhibited at Vermont Arts Council’s Spotlight Gallery in “Art for Land”, an invitational group show to benefit the Vermont Land Trust, and “Bird’s Eye View” at Studio Place Arts’ Main Gallery in Barre.
