STATEMENT
Marianne paints in plein air whenever possible. She has painted in the most precarious positions over the years in an attempt to see clearly. She sets up her easel wherever the composition is best visible. Her love of the Vermont landscape is a good match for the rich color found in her pastel paintings. Painting on site with rich color and light is a wonderful match. The pastels are multi-layered to give ample attention to the exploding colors that lay beneath the more obvious color choice of the final layer. Surprise colors burst through to give movement and life to the scene. The works have a realistic line but with an impressionistic appearance.
Marianne had painted with watercolor and acrylics, but now prefers the vibrant colors found with pastels. The paintings appeal to the viewer who shares the love of traditional theme but also enjoys the sparkle and light in Marianne’s work.
BIO
Marianne Nealy is a self-taught artist who enjoyed small projects while raising a family. During the early 90’s, while living in Addison County, Vermont, Marianne painted murals and signs for the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum and the City of Vergennes. During that time she studied with Montpelier pastel artist, Jeneane Lund.
Marianne has displayed pastel paintings at the Southern Vermont Art Center in Manchester, Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Green Mountain Power in Colchester, and Sweet William Cottage, the Pierson Library and the Bagel in Shelburne. Marianne now lives in Chittenden County and paints on vacations and weekends.
