PX (C) Px(c) likes using popular culture images because people can relate easily to them. But when they see that the reconstructed meaning doesn’t make sense, they might question themselves and that’s when it becomes interesting. Because above all the aesthetic concerns, art remains a communication act and must be seen to provoke a dialogue. PROFILE Px(c) is the corporate alter-ego of Montreal artist Ben Depelteau. It first appeared in the 1999 painting You never know when you’ll need Px(c), as a car parts brand name. Px(c) has been known, over the years, to mimic advertising strategies to sell dysfunctional products and ideas to people. Its catalogue includes car parts, eyes, fingers, tongues, sunglasses, do-it-yourself art, concepts for gallery art, mouse traps, packages and some collages and prints.
