In "Water Atlas," Colin-Patrick Charles offers dazzling ink-on-paper drawings inspired by 17th & 18th century engravings of maps and contemporary comic book drafting. The pieces are vehicles for drawings of water with various obstacles and sluices peppered throughout to liven the flow a bit.

In the “Water Atlas” series, a piece often begins with a border and a single representation: sometimes a sun, a body of water, a cliff or a keeper, nestled in their bunker and calculating, observing or sleeping. The rest of the piece is the reaction of the blank area to this interaction of border and point.

Colin-Patrick Charles was born in Seattle, Washington and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Loyola University, Chicago with a B.A. in philosophy. He lives in Burlington, Vermont. Charles draws with India ink on paper and his work often looks more like etchings than drawings. The lines are precise. His composition is dynamic.

He participated in Art Map Burlington’s First Fifty exhibition in 2007 and 2008.

During June-August 2007, Colin-Patrick participated in the Kasini House's "10X10." The "Scavenger Hunt" was an exhibition for Kasini House, wherein ten artists each submitted a word and created ten works based on those words: decade, engine, entrance, gun, penultimate, plenty, pretend, repulsion, tools and water tower. His interpretation took the form of a machine, each piece being a different mechanism within the machine. The purpose was to play with the idea of the absurd interoperability of apparently inoperable things.

In May 2007, Colin-Patrick released "The Miracle of Creativity That Burns from Within (which is neither miraculous nor burning)," a series of drawings and an installation resulting from his residency at Kasini House. The series tells the story of a boy confronting fear through the imagery of his older self. Kasini House published the series of drawings in booklet form.
