Artist Bio/ Statement I have been asked where I went to art school…my reply…I went to nursing school instead. I spent 12 years of my life in a successful nursing career studying the human body in detail. As a nurse, I learned to overcome fear through handling multiple stressful situations in a calm manner. Artists deal with fear and rejection routinely…I feel nursing allowed me the experience and confidence to release fear in art. My art is evolving…it is unusual and abstract in subject and contrast. My emotions come through on the canvas…the images are myself turned inward. To completely become an artist is to expose yourself. You can’t say, “Don’t look at me; I’m exposing myself.” If you are going to do it, you have to do it all the way. Nobody’s going to take notice unless you step out of your way and go, “look at me!” This is what I have done…creating a painting a day…living free from inhibitions, letting go of emotions, being present in every moment. |
